"Jesus says, 'I want you to follow me so fully, so intensely, so enduringly that all other attachments in your life look weak by comparison.'"
- Tim Keller.
If you are seeking Christian Counseling, then you know that everyone - whether or not she or he believes in God - is a worshipper. Meaning, we all live for something. We all have things that, if we did not have them, would crush us. Many of these are healthy desires in and of themselves: a spouse, a family, comfort, pleasure, success, approval. But we tend to turn these things into sources of life for us. And if we do not have them, we lose a sense of worth and meaning. We are destroyed. Hence, we are controlled by these desires and are not really free as we were meant to be.
We were made to live full and abundant lives, and become the best possible versions of ourselves. For Christians, this means loving God and others freely because He loved us first. It means knowing that all people are beautifully made, filled with glory and the potential for tremendous good, and we each also have brokenness and darkness within us that only God can remedy. And God has addressed our problem of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus. It means becoming like Christ and living in this world for God's purposes such as freeing people from oppression and injustice, working toward relational reconciliation (with some caveats - which I will write about later), and making Him known. There are many who are not Christians, who work heroically toward many of these purposes of God. As Christians, we stand alongside these people and seek God's glory.
Our personal worth is not tied to what we accomplish, what we have, or who likes us. We find worth in being known and loved by God. He is the one who restores us when we turn to Him.
I will bring all the training and skills I have to our times together, to the best of my ability. And at the same time, I will rely on Christ to effect real and lasting change in your life.
We are all works in progress. It would be my privilege to walk with you as you find the healing, peace, and freedom you were made for.
