Relationships are often messy. And sometimes, they can lead to confusion and deep pain. They can even become toxic, destructive and abusive.
You want to be treated with respect and love. You want a healthy relationship with your spouse. You want to see and think clearly about your situation.
You can play your part in the healing of your marriage, as far as it depends on you. You can develop a healthy relationship with others and yourself.
If you are in a destructive relationship or have experienced other overwhelming life events, you may feel unable to fully be yourself. Your capacity to relax and enjoy simple pleasures and the important people in your life may feel limited. You may constantly feel a tension in your stomach, tightness in your neck and shoulders, difficulty with breathing or sleeping, and an edginess to your personality. Sometimes, you may get anxiety attacks or completely lose motivation to face your daily life. If this is true of you, I can help you.
Along with traditional psychotherapy, I incorporate Somatic Experiencing (SE®) and other somatic practices to gently help you come out of a perpetual fight, flight or freeze state and feel more like yourself. These body-based approaches will help increase your capacity to face life's anxieties much more rapidly and effectively than talk therapy alone and allow you to live your life with resilience and more ease.
I am recommended by author and speaker Leslie Vernick and author and Batterer Intervention Specialist Chris Moles to work with individuals in destructive and abusive relationships.
I received additional training at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF). My time at CCEF continues to enhance my own personal growth and enrich my work with counselees of various religious/spiritual traditions. If you are looking specifically for Christian counseling, I am equipped to help you.
I am a person in progress and a life-long learner. When I am not counseling, I am working on my own personal and spiritual growth, enjoying my friends, family, and food, exercising sporadically, watching movies with my husband, and adoring dogs - including mine. And in case you are wondering, my name is pronounced, "oo-nia", and rhymes with "Julia."
I will help you make healthy and lasting changes in the way you relate to yourself, others, and God, if you so choose.
